Faith passes from one generation to the next through simple storytelling. As members of one generation share their experiences of encountering God, they inspire the next to seek Him for themselves. This living history stretches from the ancient patriarchs through the prophets to the Gospel writers and down through church history, connecting us back to the very beginning. Each story we tell becomes a link we forge, joining us to this unbroken line of faith.
Our challenge is to keep this living history alive by boldly telling our own stories.
When Our Link Feels Broken

But what happens when everything feels broken? When loved ones die? What about when we feel ignored and overlooked? Where is Jesus when things go differently than we hoped? When arguments happen with friends, family, and coworkers? And prayers seem to remain unanswered?
Asking felt like I was questioning God’s goodness, which shook my faith. How can you question a God whose track record is being good to you? Instead I’ve learned asking them is normal, not faithless. David and countless others have asked these questions. But the link? The connection? It holds firm. Even in our darkest days.
Imperfect Links
So where do we find our place in this ancient story? God’s narrative through your life and mine? It’s raw, unedited, and far from perfect. The road is long and HARD!
But here’s what I know with 100% certainty: God loves me. Exactly where I am. As I am. Messy, unkempt, and at times brash and mean.
Can I change? Can I ask forgiveness? Absolutely! God forgives us and He also loves those I’ve hurt as much as those who hurt me. Choosing to forgive and love them? That means setting emotionally healthy boundaries WHILE ALSO keeping my heart right.
With that figured out I can continue living wholeheartedly for Jesus. My part in this living history? It’s stronger, connected to millions more, just like you.
And I have a lot more to learn!
God’s Fingerprints

Despite the messiness and questions, when I step back and look at my life, I see God’s fingerprints. And they are EVERYWHERE! He blesses me with children, provisions for my family, protects me from physical attacks, and shows me grace through church, individuals, and total strangers. For that, I’m forever grateful.
Each blessing, each moment of protection, each act of grace – they’re all chapters in this living history that stretches back thousands of years and will continue long after we’re gone.
I continue believing Jesus loves me. Maybe things will look different someday. But even if they remain the same, this one truth anchors all of us: we are loved by the Creator of the universe.
My part of this living history? It’s imperfect. Honest. Raw. And real. But strong. The chain is held by the same God who held Abraham, Moses, David, and Paul in His hands.
Your Turn

This living history continues. And that gives me hope.
But here’s what matters most: the generation after you is waiting. They’re watching how you handle your struggles, how you find God in the mess, how you keep going when everything feels broken. Your story – messy as it is – could be the link that connects them to Jesus.
Now it’s your turn. What’s your story of encountering God? What has He done in your life, even in the mess?
Wait for your story to become perfect? This ancient story needs honest voices, not polished ones.
Your next step? Tell someone this week. Share one way you’ve seen God’s fingerprints in your life. Write it down. Post it. Say it out loud. The living history is waiting for your voice.
What story will you add to this unbroken chain?
