“Who’s in charge? You or me?”
That’s the kind of supercharged sentiment that separates micromanagers from leaders. It’s the difference between those who lead by fear instead of inspiring others. Leaders who challenge their people move in the same direction. Together, their team is unified against the odds. That’s a leader who will lead, being an innovator and idea master.
Too often, we find ourselves in the middle, wondering which direction to go because our leaders manage, and our managers lead. So we take a stand. Looking in the face of that fateful dragon named ‘You are fired,’ fearing the loss of our job, insurance benefits, and insurmountable odds of securing another solid revenue-producing job. All because we challenge the ‘boss.’
If you lose the job, was it worth having? And what if your boss sees you standing up and doing the right thing, leading? Isn’t that a win for both your team and you?
So the next time you question yourself about doing the right thing, stand up for your convictions and lead.
It could be the best thing you ever do!
